If you are into any form of cycling yourself or love (like) someone who is, then you already know that it is a pricey sport. It can feel like everything costs an arm and a leg (sometimes it does, literally). But there are some items out there that won’t break the bank yet will be appreciated by the recipient. Here are some practical and unique items to slip under the tree (or in the stocking) this year.

Stocking Stuffers and Gifts Under $20

The Boxer Gifts Bike Chain Bottle Opener makes the perfect stocking stuffer for the bicycle enthusiast. He or she is sure to be delighted by this unique trinket that will undoubtedly be the topic of conversation.

Cyclists like to infuse a bit of their personality into ride attire in the form of funky socks. Made from recycled coffee grounds using nanotechnology, these APRIME ECO-CAFE Crew Cushion Outdoor Socks will certainly add a little pick-me-up to their ride.

Bike touring and Bikepacking has really been growing in popularity. Any cyclist who is curious about this form of biking will certainly benefit from reading Ultralight Bike Touring and Bikepacking: The Ultimate Guide to Lightweight Cycling Adventures by authors Justin Lichter and Justin Kline. This book is available in paperback and Kindle Editions.

One thing you can count on with owning a bike is that it will require maintenance. You have two choices. Learn to do it yourself or pay someone to do it for you. The first option, even just the basics, will save you a ton of money. This is especially true of mountain bikes because they have extra features that fail (plus they take a beating). The book Zinn & the Art of Mountain Bike Maintenance: The World’s Best-Selling Guide to Mountain Bike Repair by Leonard Zinn is sure to prove valuable. With step-by-step instructions and diagrams, maintenance will become a snap.

What to wear for cold weather riding can be a real balancing act. You don’t want to sweat and then become cold. The ARSUXEO Winter Warm UP Thermal Softshell Cycling Jacket might be the answer. I own this jacket as do several riders in my area. I have worn it at 20-to-30-degree temperatures with just a single layer under it and was not cold at any point. One of my fellow riders told me that he prefers this jacket to his much higher-priced enduro racing jacket. You can’t beat the price on this one.

Lightweight water and windproof yet breathable the ShowersPass Unisex Crosspoint Knit Gloves will keep the wearer both warm and dry. Additionally, the fabric is quick drying and antimicrobial to prevent odors and bacteria. Silicone palm and finger grips keep hands firmly planted on the handlebars.

There are few things more important than staying hydrated on a ride. So, you might think there is nothing new in this arena. Let me introduce you to the FIDLOCK Twist Bottle 590 Set a cage-free, magnetic-mounting water bottle. This 590ML water bottle secures to the bike’s frame with an innovative magnet-mechanical closure system.

Soaring through the wood, over features, and off of jumps can make a girl feel like a Forest Fairy. She can get that same amazing feeling off the trails and lounging wrapped in this ultra-soft Forest Fairy-themed hooded blanket.

After playing in the dirt all day, a diva doesn’t want to spend the evening cleaning grime from her car’s interior. These machine washable car seat covers will save her car’s interior (and investment) from trail dust and mud while adding a bit of style to her ride.

Be sure to check out the entire Dirt Diva Collection which includes, mugs, t-shirts, jerseys, and more.

For the past several years Smartwatches have been popular. And they continue to be the best way to track activity and vital health information as well as offer safety features. I reviewed 14 fitness trackers in my article The 14 Best Smartwatches for Mountain Biking (2022). Find the best one for your rider. Some start as low as around $125.

Say goodbye to strapping on a camera and say hello to Ray Ban Stories Glasses. This is a collaboration between Ray-Ban and Meta. While they look like regular sunglasses, they have a built-in camera for capturing stills and video. These smart glasses allow the wearer to catch the action from their point of view, not from their helmet, chest, or handlebars. Viewers will see exactly what the rider was looking at in real time. In addition to taking photos and videos with voice commands, these smart glasses allow you to play music and make phone calls. Plus, they have lenses that transition in different lighting making them good in varying light conditions. They come in a variety of styles and colors. Unfortunately, they are not available with prescription lenses yet.

Work the post-ride knots and muscle cramps out with the TheraGun Mini – Handheld Electric Massage Gun. Offering three speeds percussive therapy and ultra-quiet use, this portable deep tissue massager is sure to become any athlete’s best friend.

Bike theft happens. That is just a reality. And it’s easy to think you are just going to run into a place for a moment and don’t need to lock the bike especially if the lock isn’t handy. But the FoldyLock Forever Folding Bike Lock makes carrying a lock conveniently. This heavy-duty and folding lock mounts to the bike’s frame making it accessible yet out of the way. This keyed lock offers maximum protection with a security level of 18/18.

Gifts to Keep them Safe: Priceless

I know it sounds cliche, but gifts of safety really are priceless. They could save a loved one’s life.

If you love someone who rides, their safety is always on your mind. Keep them safe with some of the best helmets out there. Take a look at our article 8 Best Ponytail-friendly Bike Helmets You’re Sure to Love which has great options whether the rider wears a ponytail or not.

One of my favorite safety precautions is the RoadId wristband. It is like a medical alert bracelet on steroids. The interactive version allows the user to enter all their medical information into a database for first responders to access. Even if your loved one doesn’t have any chronic medical conditions this is a great tool. It allows the user to input all their past and present medical information and more. If the cyclist in your life is ever in a situation where they cannot speak for themselves, Road ID Interactive speaks for them. I‘ve worn one for at least 15 years.

Safety certainly isn’t the sexiest thing about riding a bike, but it should be a concern for all riders. And it is a topic that comes up often among female cyclists. Everyone’s risk tolerance is different and how they deal with it is a personal choice. But for those seeking a way to stay safe that is non-lethal or doesn’t involve physical contact there is the Safe Sound Personal Safety Alarm. With a 130dB Siren and Strobing LED Light the user can effectively call attention to herself if she finds she’s in an unsafe situation. This personal alarm is safe for use by just about anyone and cannot be exploited by an assailant. It makes an inexpensive stocking stuffer that might just save a loved one’s life.

  1. Hi Susan

Got any good suggestions for where to shop for an electric bike when you are only 5 ft tall? I don’t want to order online and would like to be able to try it before buying.

    1. Have you visited your local bike shop?? I haven’t dealt with any of them in your area personally but I have ridden with riders in your area. They are all very helpful. I imagine you will find the same at the shops. The only one I am familiar with at all is The Bicycle Shop in downtown State College.

Hi!! I’m Susan.

I love to travel, I’m fueled by caffeine, biking is a favorite pastime and I do my best thinking when I’m in the garden. It was from these passions that the idea for Beans, Bikes, and Blooms was born.

I’ve been writing professionally for over 20 years on business to women’s issues, and everything in between including travel, of course.

I live in southern New Jersey with my husband Bill and our 6 fur babies. All rescues!
